Venetie man arrested in connection with stabbing death

ANCHORAGE — A 33-year-old man is under arrest in connection with the stabbing death of another man in the interior Alaska village of Venetie (VEE’-neh-teye).

Alaska State Troopers say John Fred Roberts of Venetie was arrested Sunday on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 34-year-old Alex Tritt. Roberts also was arrested on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

It’s unclear if Roberts has an attorney.

Troopers say they were notified early Saturday morning about the death. According to troopers, Tritt attended a party at Roberts’ home, where the two got into an altercation.

Roberts is being held at the Fairbanks Correctional Center.

Venetie is a community of about 185. It is located about 415 miles north of Anchorage.
