Goldbelt announces election results; Kahklen, Wanamaker out

Two longtime members of Goldbelt’s board of directors have been replaced, the company announced Monday.

In board elections that concluded this month, Joseph E. Kahklen and Randy Wanamaker were replaced by Lori Grant and Leilani Wilson Walkush.

Kahklen had served on the board of Juneau’s urban Native corporation for 35 years and was one of the signatories of the documents that founded Goldbelt in the early 1970s. Wanamaker, a former member of the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly, had served on the board for 24 years.

The results were first announced at Goldbelt’s annual shareholder meeting, held June 3 in Centennial Hall.

This year, three seats on the Goldbelt board of directors were up for election. In addition to the election of Grant and Walkush, Andrea Cadienete-Laiti was re-elected to the board.

Unlike other Native corporations, Goldbelt does not have a board-backed slate of candidates, said McHugh Pierre, Goldbelt’s vice president of Alaska operations. The board cannot direct proxy votes on behalf of candidates.

Dave Dapcevich of Dapcevich Accounting Service in Sitka was the election monitor.

Full election results:

• Lori M. Grant — 108,243

• Leilani Wilson Walkush — 101,930

• Andrea Cadiente-Laiti — 82,970

• Randy Wanamaker — 66,326

• Joseph Edward Kahklen — 60,206

• Andrew C. Williams — 32,756

• Mike E. Mann — 16,883

• Frank Lee Jimmy — 7,144
