Free cab rides available Saturday night

This Halloween weekend, there’s reason for celebration but no reason to drive drunk. Those who are looking to have a few drinks at a bar can get a free ride home this Saturday night, courtesy of the Safe Ride Home program.

From 9 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, bar patrons can ask their bartender or server to call them a ride, and the cab will take them home for free. Participating cabs will have a green flashing light. The service is provided by the Juneau and Lynn Canal Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers (CHARR) Association. It’s also not limited to bars, as liquor stores and hotels are also participating.

Sixteen establishments, from Douglas to Auke Bay, are participating in the program: Alaska Cache Liquor, Louie’s Douglas Inn, the Narrows Bar, Island Pub, the Alaskan Hotel and Bar, Lucky Lady Pub, Rendezvous Bar, Duck Creek Market, Squirez Bar, Hangar on the Wharf, Triangle Club Bar, Imperial Billiard & Bar, Moose Lodge 700, Viking Lounge, the Baranof Hotel and Red Dog Saloon.
