Woosh Kinaadeiyí to host fifth Annual Grand Slam

Woosh Kinaadeiyí will host their annual Grand Poetry Slam competition on Oct. 17 at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., will celebrate the organization’s five years of monthly poetry slams and open mic events in the community.

The Grand Poetry Slam will include a slam competition featuring winners from the past season. The poets will perform original work and are judged by members of the community. The winning poet will receive $50 and the 2015 Grand Slam Award. Competing in the slam are Erika Bergren, Fysh Houck, David Parish, Maureen Longworth, Christina Apathy, and Mike Christenson.

The event will also include opening performances by Dee Jay DeRego, Christy NaMee Eriksen, Amy Pinney, Caroline Garcia, and Ziggy Unzicker.

The show will be hosted by Conor Lendrum and Annie Bartholomew, with the Woosh Kinaadeiyí House Band.  The event is pay as you can, with a suggested donation of $5-10.

The event is the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Limited edition items, including the Woosh Kinaadeiyí Season Six t-shirts designed by local artist Crystal Worl, will be available to purchase.
