Wildlife Wednesday: Our Wild Heritage, 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, Thunder Mountain High School library 2nd floor. This season’s first presenters are Mary Catharine Martin and Bjorn Dihle. Their talk and visuals will cover viewable wildlife in Alaska. Refreshments are provided. This is a family event. Free. Details: akwildlife.org

 

Empty Chair Project “Within the Silence,” 7:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, UAS Egan Lecture Hall. A dramatic performance telling the story of a 13-year-old girl sent to a internment camp during the Second World War. Free. Details: www.living voices.org or www.emptychairproject

 

Evening at Egan: “Assimilation,” a play by Jack Dalton, 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9, Egan Library, UAS. Jack Dalton is an Alaska Native storyteller, teacher, playwright and actor. His play presents a dystopian alternate reality in which three White students are wards of the Paimiut Boarding School in the Inuit province of Alaska. Free. Bras and Bucks Drive, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, Bustin’ Out Boutique, 175 S Franklin St. Fundraiser for Free the Girls, a non-profit organization providing job opportunities to women rescued from sex trafficking in developing countries. Every dollar and bra donated goes to help a woman start a small business in various countries around the world. Prize drawings with goodies from Bustin’ Out Boutique and other local Juneau stores. Barney McClure’s Cabaret Workshop, 5-10 p.m., Monday through Friday, Oct. 12-16. JACC. Jazz pianist and teacher Barney McClure returns to Juneau to offer a five-day cabaret workshop. Singers will learn the fundamentals of cabaret, including choosing the right material, song interpretation, microphone technique, stage presence and the protocol of being a performer. The workshop culminates with a public performance on Oct. 16 at the JACC. Hosted by Juneau Jazz and Classics.

Critique session, 12-1 p.m., Saturdays, Canvas Community Art Studio and Gallery. Open to local artists working in any medium.
