Thx

Thank you letter for the week of Jan. 15

Thank you for supporting the Adopt a Family program

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to thank the Juneau community for its outstanding support of our Christmas Adopt a Family gift program which has provided Christmas presents to needy families within our community for over 25 years. During challenging times with rising prices, childcare crises, health issues and struggles for many, it is heartwarming to see the community come together and offer such generous support during the holiday season.

This year we faced exceptional challenges. Requests rose from last year’s 260 to over 330 individuals. Our ability to do this depends on volunteers who are matched with families so that no one is overwhelmed with responsibilities and costs. Less than a week before Christmas, St. Vincent de Paul had over 100 children waiting to be adopted. We sent word out to one person and the next morning we had over 50 emails offering help. Signs were put up at the Grind Coffee stands, and an Empire article provided overwhelming support for Juneau’s children. Everyone who asked was helped, and more.

This community’s efforts made Christmas much merrier for many struggling families during these difficult times. We thank those who adopted families, those who offered but were too late, and those who donated money for extras. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Dave Ringle,

Executive Director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Therese Conference
