Thank you for supporting the plant sale

The Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum thanks Terry Goff, manager of Juneau’s Safeway store, for allowing the use of a portion of their parking lot again this year for the Juneau Community Super Plant Sale. Also thanks to KINY/KSUP, KTOO, Cooperative Extension Service, the Juneau Empire, and Sandy Williams.

It takes a lot of organizations to make the Super Plant Sale a success. Five Juneau nonprofits sponsor the plant sale on a rotating basis: 4-H, Juneau Community Garden, Juneau Garden Club, Southeast Alaska Gardeners, and Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum.

Thanks to the commercial vendors who contribute a portion of their proceeds to the sponsoring organizations for continuing service programs in our community. Vendors included Alea Oien, Alaskan Heart Designs, Ed’s Edible Landscaping, Game Creek Orchard, Landscape Alaska, Sunrise Creations, and our newest vendor Get Growing who generously contributed 100 percent of sales.

Thanks to these organizations, businesses and Juneau Montessori School, shoppers were able to choose from a wide variety of plants, including fruit trees, vegetables and flowers, and many locally grown and hardy perennials. Another new participant this year was Salt and Soil Marketplace, which shared information on community supported agriculture in Southeast Alaska.

We are grateful to organizations and individuals who dug, divided and potted plants to share. Finally, thanks to those who purchased plants and sought answers to their gardening questions.

We hope to see everyone again next year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Contact Juneau Community Garden for information about the 2018 Super Plant Sale.
