Juneau Chamber of Commerce presents Lifetime Achievement and Citizen of the Year awards

During Night on Bourbon Street on Oct. 16, the Juneau Chamber of Commerce presented Bruce Denton the Citizen of the Year Award and George Reifenstein the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Denton has worked on the Glory Hole board and Housing First in Juneau, and now is the vice president of the Housing First Collaborative. He has served on the board of the Alaska State Homebuilders Association and the Alaska Craftsman Home Program. He has been in involved in the construction of numerous buildings in Juneau. Also, he was the 146th person to ever complete the Iditarod.

Reifenstein has been an active member in the Juneau community. He worked 40 years for Capital City Fire & Rescue, and 25 years for Boy Scouts of America. For 12 years he sat on the board of the Healing Hand Foundation. He currently serves on the board of directors for KTOO.

He was recognized with the District Award of Merit in 2003 and the Silver Beaver Award in 2006 for “Distinguished Service to Youth.”

During his time with Capital City Fire & Rescue, Reifenstein received the U.S. Coast Guard’s Meritorious Public Service Award as a member of the response team to the downed helicopters on the Juneau Ice Field in 1999.
