In honor of Jamie Parsons who recently passed away after battling myeloma, the Glacier Valley Rotary Club is collecting funds for a scholarship in the name of the former mayor of Juneau and president of their club.
Current president Charlie Williams said the Glacier Valley Rotary Club gives a minimum of $10,000 in scholarships for high school students in the city of Juneau annually. There are two scholarships of $3,000 apiece and usually one for $4,000. This year, the $4,000 scholarship will be given in the name of Jamie Parsons which will be added to whatever amount of additional funds are raised for Parsons’ memorial scholarship fund.
The deadline to contribute to the scholarship fund is Jan. 20, 2016. Donations should be sent to Juneau Glacier Valley Rotary Club Box 34418 Juneau, Alaska 99803.
The scholarship will go to the highest scoring high school student who applies. High schools students should apply for the scholarship through the high school they are enrolled in. Applications should be made available in early February.
