The first Hunatics — Only Fools Run at Midnight fundraiser took place last Friday. Over $850 was raised for Hoonah’s Project Playground, a planned playground at Hoonah School.

Twenty-nine runners turned out and ran 1.7 miles, from Icy Strait Point to Icy Strait Brewery.

Wilbur Skeek placed first, Michael Croasmun second and Nick Hughes third. Hoonah Travel Adventures paid the $10 entry fees and Icy Strait Brewing matched any donations made at the brewery and provided free beer to participants.

Hoonah’s Project Playground plans to install a swing set and lay dirt for the rest of the playground this year, Hoonah Travel Adventures’ Angie Wrightson said in an interview with the Empire on Wednesday.
