Healing Hand receives $500 donation

Recongitions for April 28, 2019.

• The Healing Hand Foundation recently received a $500 donation from Wells Fargo bank. The donation was presented by Karen West, Wells Fargo vice president, and Patrick Ryland, senior business relationship manager, to Joe Kahklen, board president of the Healing Hand Foundation.

Wells Fargo’s support for the Healing Hand Foundation dates back to 2002. The bank is among a handful of founding benefactors supporting its mission of bridging the financial gap for Alaska Natives who need assistance with health-related items not provided by the Native health care system.

• Keyaira Mumford, an interior design student originally from Juneau, won a national competition in sustainable design.

Mumford, a junior in the School of Design and Construction at Washington State University, won the Green Voice Design Competition, sponsored by the Hospitality Industry Network. She receives a scholarship as well as a travel award to attend the association’s exposition that will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada in May.

The competition called on interior design or architecture students to design a renovation of an existing building into a new hotel. The design had to encompass sustainability in areas such as the site selection, water efficiency, energy conservation, products and materials used, and indoor environmental quality. Mumford selected a historic building in Vancouver, British Columbia for her renovation design.
