Community calendar of upcoming events

This is a calendar updated daily of upcoming local events during the coming days provided by the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, and other contributors. Submissions for events can be sent to editor@juneauempire.com. They should include the date, time, location, short summary of the event, a website and/or social media page for the event if applicable, if an admission fee is required, and a contact for people to obtain more information. Submissions are not guaranteed of inclusion and may be edited for length or content. The calendar is also published in the print editions of the Juneau Empire, and submissions for those should be received by 9 a.m. Monday for Wednesday’s paper and 9 a.m. Thursday for Saturday’s paper.

SATURDAY, JUNE 21

Summer Solstice Music Festival, noon-10:30 p.m., Áak’w Landing.

A fun in the sun one-day music festival to benefit Alaska Native Sisterhood & Brotherhood Camps 70. Spend the day with local music, food, and fun. Tickets available online at Eventbrite or day of at the event. Contact ans_camp_70@yahoo.com.

Free music in the afternoon with Luke and Heather, 2-5 p.m., Crystal Saloon, 218 Front St.

Catch Luke and Heather in their show “Music in the Afternoons” at The Crystal Saloon Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. through June 11. They are featuring two of their projects: a jazz duo featuring piano, sultry vocals, and drums, and their project Poetry Police, showcasing original tunes in a kinetic folk-punk style. Shakti flow is a vinyasa-based class set to music that will invigorate, energize, and build heat. Shakti flow includes connection to breath and theme, sun salutations, standing sequences, peak poses, and a cooldown. Contact 907-723-8188.

insomniACTS, 7-9 p.m., Perseverance Theatre, 914 3rd Steet.

24-hour play event. Five teams of writers, directors, and actors create original one-acts in 24 hours. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, visit juneaughostlight.com.

SUNDAY, JUNE 22

Disc Golf Tour of Juneau, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Treadwell, University of Alaska Southeast, and Aant’iyeik reds courses.

Three rounds, 54 holes. Register on Udisc. Pay $20 fee day of event. Start time at Treadwell Hole One. Park at Sandy Beach.

Artists of All Nations, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, 350 Whittier St.

Artists of All Nations is a free open studio opportunity in the Main Hall at the JACC from 1 – 5 pm, usually on the last Sunday of the month. Work together on your art.

Sundays with the Juneau Symphony, 1-2 p.m. Weekly on KRNN.

Sundays with the Juneau Symphony is the place for your local connection to classical music. Each week features episodes with new performances, musician interviews and an ongoing spotlight on the local music scene. Free. juneausymphony.org. MONDAY, JUNE 23

Senior Sing Along with Jacque, 11 a.m. Juneau Senior Center.

Stop into the Senior Center each Monday for a piano sing-along with Jacque. After, be sure to stay for a free senior lunch, starting at 11:45 a.m. Free event. Contact: JSCOutreach@ccsak.org.

Juneau Makerspace Open Studio, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. 3915 N Douglas Hwy.

Tour the facilities, get new member orientations, and work on projects including ceramics, woodworking, sewing, painting, print making electronics, cooking, and much more. TUESDAY, JUNE 24

Beginning and Advanced ESL Classes, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Mendenhall Valley Public Library, 3025 Dimond Pk Lp.

Art for Self Care, 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. 418 Harris St.

These are groups designed to promote self-care using a variety of art activities. For adults to help relieve anxiety, depression, and stress, especially during the winter months. Contact Shawn Hatt Cohen at (907) 321-5414.

Autism Support Group for Families with Children With Autism, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Mendenhall Valley Public Library, 3025 Dimond Pk Lp.

This is a facilitated gathering of parents who are raising children with autism. Last Tuesday of each month. Meetings allow for personal sharing and supportive problem-solving. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25

Senior Chair Yoga, 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Juneau Senior Center.

Led by volunteers every Wednesday and Saturday. Free to anyone 60 and above. All skill levels welcome. Free senior lunch after. Contact JSCOutreach@ccsak.org.

Juneau Parkinson’s Support Group, 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Riverview Senior Living, 3041 Clinton Dr.

The group was established to provide support, education, activities, and camaraderie for people affected by Parkinson’s. Meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month and will be available for those in surrounding communities of Southeast Alaska to join virtually. TOPS Club, Inc (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly), 5 p.m.-6:15 p.m. Juneau Public Health Center. 3412 Glacier Hwy.

Purpose is to help and support members as they take off and keep off pounds sensibly. Weigh-in 5 p.m.-5:15 pm, Group Program 5:15 p.m. – 6:15 pm. First meeting is free. Contact Elizabeth at 907-321-4049. Meets weekly on Thursdays.
