Opinion: Sullivan supports local business

Sullivan’s support for small business is why I urge you to join me in voting for him on Nov.3.

As a longtime Alaskan, born and raised in Juneau, I’ve had a rewarding career in one of Juneau’s oldest companies. Over the years, local businesses have had their challenges, but this year takes the cake. The pandemic has tested all of us, and it will be some time before things return to normal.

Thanks to Sen. Dan Sullivan and the rest of the congressional delegation in Washington, Alaska got more than its share of CARES Act funding that helped businesses continue to operate and keep their employees working.

Some people, including Dan Sullivan’s opponent, called the CARES Act a bailout, but Juneau’s private sector wouldn’t have survived without it. Senator Sullivan has promised to continue fighting for additional support for small businesses in Juneau and across the state.

In addition, Dan has worked diligently to ease the burden of unreasonable regulations thereby allowing small businesses to grow and create more local jobs. By comparison, his opponent, who says he will caucus with Democrats, will be voting to increase your taxes and add more burdensome regulations. This, in turn, will stifle our economy and lead to fewer jobs being created locally.

Senator Sullivan’s support for small business is why I urge you to join me in voting for him on Nov.3.
