The recent letter to the Juneau Empire editor from Frank Bergstrom calling for the city to expand the market for compost is right on target and compelling. The city needs to promote marketing waste minimization with help from the recent federal composting grant. The city also needs to recognize the tremendous work put into Juneau’s composting possibilities by the private sector efforts of Lisa Daugherty who created and runs Juneau Composts!. Lisa has built a composting foundation that the City needs to expand with the help of federal grant funds.
