Opinion: Overcrowding concerns undersell local park

Marine Park is available for my use, I am not deterred from visiting it by the tourists.

In his My Turn about the CBJ Marine Park survey, Ray Preston arrogates to himself the authority to speak for the “locals.” Well, I am a “local,” and he sure doesn’t speak for me. Contrary to Mr. Preston’s claims, Marine Park is available for my use, I am not deterred from visiting it by the tourists, and it is certainly not off-limits to me.

I enjoy Marine Park when there are no visiting cruise ships, and I enjoy it when people from all over the world are enjoying it with me. There may be longer lines at the Fillipino food stands now and then, but the food is well worth the wait. And watching our visitors stroll by as I sit in the sun relishing my lunch is a great way to spend a half-hour or so.

Perhaps Mr. Preston should give it a try next summer.
