Opinion: Murkowski and Sullivan should vote against Kavanaugh

I am a lifelong Alaska resident, born and raised in Juneau. I’m very concerned about the current Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

His remarks in a 1999 brief concerning Native Hawaiian folks are disgusting and reprehensible. His racism and utter lack of respect for indigenous people make him a terrible choice for the Supreme Court.

Our state residents are watching how both U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan of Alaska vote on this issue. We notice their inaction regarding the criminal and treasonous activity of the Trump administration.

This is a pivotal time in our country, and not one that will be remembered as a bright time in our already troubled history.

Murkowski and Sullivan’s votes against Kavanaugh would go a long way in showing Alaskans like me that they actually care about our rights.
