Opinion: Holocaust remembrance has a purpose

The importance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The hearts of millions affected by the Holocaust were broken Sunday. A goal of those who survived the Nazi Holocaust was that it be taught and remembered so future genocide becomes harder, and ethnic hate can be battled by facts. People have done an amazing job preserving a compelling historical record, for these very reasons.

Fewer victims remain every day to tell this story from over seven decades ago, leaving that job to us. Kudos to those in the media who remembered and educated Sunday on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. A reminder to those who didn’t, or forgot.
