Opinion: Have cruise industry build the new JACC

The city can hardly keep its head above water!

The Peter Freer My Turn in Friday, Sept. 13’s Empire supporting the New JACC makes good sense — and if it doesn’t add even more to our property taxes soon due. The city can hardly keep its head above water!

Sure, we would all like to have this and that, but I was brought up believing you can’t have it all, especially when you can’t afford it! Here is another brazen thought: how about getting the cruise ship industry to build this complex for the city since they are already buying up our waterfront? That way they can tell we artists what art will or will not sell to the millions of tourists each summer season. A win-win situation?

Perhaps even more pressing is our completely out-of-touch governor who only wants Alaska’s environment to get continuously warmer to increase the flow of the almighty buck to big business at enormous harm to our irreplaceable culture and wildlife!
