Opinion: Cruise control initiative is pro-tourist

Uncontrolled numbers of ships and visitors dilute the experience.

Juneau Cruise Control Initiative is a pro-tourist plan. My husband and I had a charter boat business for over 20 years. Our clients ate at local restaurants, spent lots of money at local stores and stayed at Juneau hotels. In recent years, with uncontrolled numbers of cruise ships, downtown is unbearable, the whale boats use loud speakers heard over the water and our trails are clogged with groups with leaders on speakers. I appreciate Gastineau Guiding courtesy. There are other great companies providing quality experiences, too. This initiative will help by placing limits and allowing us to provide a true quiet Alaska experience. Peaceful Saturdays! Sign me up! Can we add a noise ordinance?
