Letter: Why Karen Crane is the ideal candidate

I believe Karen Crane is the ideal person to succeed our late friend and mayor, Greg Fisk. Karen has a positive vision for Juneau’s future, and much like Greg, she is by nature a centrist and a person who unites.

I’ve known Karen since just after she became director of the Alaska Division of Libraries in the 1980s. The division had contracted me to produce several reference books, and Karen supervised the projects. She was decisive, no-nonsense and fair.

During her six years of service on the Assembly, I noted Karen’s command of the issues and ability to work well with other Assembly members.

More than once Karen sought my opinion on local business matters she knew concerned me. I appreciated that she sought my opinion, listened, clearly understood my point of view, and later followed up by calling me back.

I’m voting for Karen Crane to be our next mayor on March 15.

Peter Metcalfe,

Juneau
