Letter: For Koelsch

I was relieved when Ken Koelsch agreed to run for mayor. Our community deserves someone of his caliber who can immediately step into the role left by our late mayor, and stabilize our local government while expanding opportunities for growth in Juneau.

As a 1990 Juneau-Douglas High School graduate and student of Mr. Koelsch, I learned from an early age the value of participating in our community. Mr. Koelsch taught all of his students the importance of civic responsibility, encouraging us to participate in the issues we cared about and that we could make a difference. He has continuously led by example, demonstrating what it means to show up, stand up and speak up in our community!

Ken Koelsch is a longtime and highly respected educator, law enforcement officer and civic leader who has served both on the Assembly and as Deputy Mayor. He has positively enhanced our community in countless ways through his diligence and altruism. Ken also personally understands the issues facing multiple generations with grandchildren in the school system, his young adult children earning a living here, and as a senior. He will unite all generations in Juneau as a mayor who will listen and take action towards needed change.

I encourage the citizens of Juneau to show up, stand up and speak up for a strong turnout at the polls on March 15 to vote Ken Koelsch for mayor!
