Empire photographer, sports reporter will be missed

I was sad to read that both Michael Penn and Nolin Ainsworth are no longer part of the Empire. I have always enjoyed Penn’s photos, which always seem to capture a Juneau moment which etched into your mind for days. Ainsworth was always there to cover the local sports scene so that we would not miss events like high school sports and the local sports leagues for both kids and adults. Both of them contributed their individual talent which made the Empire worth reading. They will both be missed. Thank you, Michael and Nolin!

I am disheartened by the recent release of Michael Penn and Nolin Ainsworth. I’ve appreciated Penn’s presence documenting and sharing so much of our local life, and Ainsworth has done great work lifting up local athletes and activities. I subscribe to a local paper so I can see what is happening around me while I drink my coffee in the morning. I do not want an app, and I do not want national or world news through this venue. I want to see and hear about people and things in my community. These are challenging times and I appreciate how difficult it must be, but cutting some of the most relevant parts of the paper is not helpful.
