Letter: Celebrate Alaska’s diversity

One of my passions as First Lady is building bridges between Alaska’s diverse cultures through education, appreciation and celebration. Gov. Bill Walker, Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott, Toni Mallott, Bridge Builders of Juneau and I invite everyone to join us Sunday, Jan. 3, from 2-4 p.m. for Winter Holidays Around the World. This community event is at the Hub (across from Fred Meyer behind Juneau Christian Center).

Drop in and stay as long as you like to enjoy this celebration of winter holidays as observed by African American, Polynesian, Russian, Norwegian, Hawaiian, Tongan, Alaska Native and other cultures. There will be holiday treats, entertainment and activities to showcase the diversity of the world’s holiday celebrations. It’s not too late for your group to participate, just email bridgebuildersjnu@gmail.com and be sure to LIKE Bridge Builders of Juneau on Facebook.

As Alaska makes national news as the most culturally diverse state in the nation, let’s continue to set an example of appreciating and celebrating the fact that while our cultural backgrounds are unique, we are all uniquely Alaskan. And yes, we are stronger and better together!
