Letter: Be neighborly and lay off the fireworks

Please consider the well-being of your neighbors and refrain from setting off fireworks on New Year’s.

In the Valley, firework users are achieving noise levels equivalent to trinitrotoluene. These violent explosions do not belong in residential areas because they frighten people, pets and wildlife. Studies have also revealed significant and long-term health implications following exposure to loud explosive noise. In addition, our city has adopted many policies over the years that clearly show explosives are not allowed in our residential zones.

It is truly unconscionable that this problem is being ignored by the Juneau Police Department and City and Borough of Juneau.
