There’s a particular kind of warmth to holiday shopping in Juneau. It’s the friendly hello from the potter who made your new mug, the sparkle of hand-worked jewelry under winter lights and the simple joy of finding a gift that was created just down the street.
Choosing to shop local isn’t just convenient – it keeps money in the community, sustains the arts and turns errands into encounters with neighbors and friends.
Find the perfect hand-crafted gift at the Juneau Public Market
Thanksgiving weekend offers the city’s biggest showcase of makers at the Juneau Public Market, a tradition since 1983 and now staged at Centennial Hall and the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.
With aisles of art, textiles, woodwork, food gifts and more, it’s the spot to pick up one-of-a-kind presents while meeting the people who made them.
The 2025 market runs Nov. 28–30, with free admission to the Juneau Arts & Culture Center and just $10 for a three-day pass to Centennial Hall. Both venues are open throughout the day, making it easy to stroll with family and visitors in town for the holiday weekend.
Juneau Gallery Walk
The magic continues into December with a special Gallery Walk hosted in partnership by Juneau Arts and Humanities, The Downtown Business Association, Sealaska Heritage Institute and Tlingit & Haida.
On Friday, Dec. 5 – 4 to 8 p.m. downtown galleries, studios and shops keep late hours for a festive evening of exhibits, performances and shopping.
From Glacier Avenue to South Franklin Street you’ll discover over 50 participating locations featuring artist exhibits, holiday activities, store specials, live music, dance performances, carolers and more!
The perfect opportunity to cross off multiple gifts from your shopping list while embracing the holiday spirit.
Round out the season with the Juneau Symphony’s ‘Holiday Cheer’ concerts on Dec. 13 and 14 at the Thunder Mountain Middle School Auditorium, a hometown favorite featuring sing-along moments and orchestral favorites that feel like a warm blanket against the dark of winter.
Every purchase, ticket and handmade card strengthens the creative ecosystem that makes Juneau, well, Juneau. Shop the market, linger at Gallery Walk, applaud local performers – and let the season’s magic find you where you already live.
As the holiday season unfolds, readers can watch for future installments of this Shop Local series, highlighting more ways to support small businesses across Alaska and celebrate the community spirit that keeps the state’s heart strong through every season.
