1. Experience Counts. Make sure you hire
a coordinator with several years of experience in the industry.
Find out if the wedding coordinator is a member of any professional
affiliations. These organizations usually require specific criteria
for membership.
2. Check References. A good wedding coordinator should be able to
provide five or more references. Call them and ask specific questions:
Was the wedding coordinator friendly and professional? How well
did the coordinator handle the details you delegated?
3. Get It In Writing. Be sure to obtain a written contract that
states the specific services to be provided and exact fees for such.
Ideally the contract will outline both the bride's and the coordinator's
responsibilities. Find out if there are any extra costs.
4. Personality counts. Are you comfortable with the coordinator
or do you feel intimidated? Your initial feeling will increase as
the process continues, so make sure your reaction is positive.
5. Breathe! Rely on the coordinator's experience. Communicate well
and avoid micromanaging.
