Will and I were married December 3rd, 2005. We had planned the wedding for the following summer of 2006, but my grandmother's failing health made us decide to push the date up further, which meant we had to find a new location, and fast.
We decided all of this on October, and decided to get married in December! We had one month to plan! Luckily for us, my sister and her husband agreed to have it at their house. The task then was to find everything we neded for a wedding, get people together and let others know and all in a month!
We all managed (my family mostly) to get things together. Unfortunately, two days before the wedding, my grandmother passed away. It became an extremely emotional time for me. I tried to be as happy as I could, but a part of me was truly sad. She would not be there to see me in my beautiful gown after all. Luckily for me, the last time my grandmother had been able to get out of her bed and really be with others was the week before my wedding, at my bridal shower. She seemed to perk up and even had a few drinks with us!! I was thankful then that she was able to enjoy good company in the last week of her life.
The wedding day came and things went off without a hitch. It was a beautiful ceremony, decorated with a Winter/Christmas theme. I was so proud of my family for helping make my day so special. At the reception, things proved a little trickier. My husband and I couldn't seem to get the toast right (where you're supposed to link arms and drink together), and I had gotten too hot and decided to get out of my dress early. The cutting of the cake went well, and we both smashed our beautiful cake in to each others noses!
The best part of the day, besides the wedding, was that weeks before I had been hoping that I would have a "white" wedding, with lots of snow. A few days before the wedding, the forecast was not calling for any snow. But low and behold, the day of the wedding, the snow fell so hard and fast that some guests left the recption early so that they could get home safely. When we finally left the party, we headed straight to the B&B and decided to relax in the jacuzzi while it was still heavily snowing outside!!
Imagine being in a warm jacuzzi, and the top part of your body is encompassed in cold snow. It was a neat experience.
My wedding day, albeit sad, was still very memorable. And even though my grandmother could not be there, she was there in spirit. I kept one of her old handkerchiefs, given to me after she passed away, and put it in my dress next to my heart, to keep her close to me on my special day!
