Whether your bridal shower is a formal tea party
or a casual barbeque, the main idea -- along with opening all those
lovely presents -- is to celebrate being together with your family
and friends. Here are some games to liven up the party:
Who Am I?
This is a perfect game to start a shower. Prepare ahead of time
by writing the name of a famous person on a 3X5 index card or piece
of paper. As each guest arrives, pin one of the "tags"
on her back without her knowing her "secret identity."
The task is for the guest to find out who she is by asking others
questions which can only be answered with a yes or no. This is a
great way for guests to get mingling right away. The first one to
learn her identity is the winner.
The "Make a Silly Bridal Veil" Contest
The guests are divided into teams, and each team is given materials
to make a silly bridal veil: plastic flowers, ribbon, and -- most
important -- a roll of toilet paper. The tackier the veils, the
better. The bride must model all the different team efforts, and
the team with the silliest veil wins prizes. This game provides
some great Kodak moments.
Getting to Know You
This is another great way to get things rolling. The guests sit
around in a circle. One by one each guest introduces herself, and
then relates something funny or interesting she knows about the
bride and/or groom.
How Well Do We Know the Bride?
Draw up a list of questions about the bride and have each guest
answer. The person with most correct answers wins. Some sample questions
include: when and where the bride and groom met, favorite color,
food, drink, who was the bride's first love, how many kids are they
planning, etc.
The Clothespin Game
Everyone is issued a clothespin at the beginning of the shower,
and clips it onto her clothing. Anytime someone says the word "wedding,"
whoever first calls them on it gets to take their clothespin. At
the end of the shower, the guest with the most clothespins wins.
Polaroid Scavenger Hunt
A great wedding shower game for the more adventurous. Split the
guests up into two teams and give each team a Polaroid camera (which
can be borrowed pretty easily), a 10 pack of film, walkie talkies,
and a list of nine sites. The only rules are that everyone on the
team must be included in the photo, and they must do what the directions
specify. Some suggestions for sites include the play area with all
the plastic balls at McDonald's, a particular bus stop, or whatever
is unique to your town or area. If you want to be a little more
daring you can make one of the sites an adult bookstore or strip
joint. As long as you split the teams so that people who know the
area are in both cars, they will have fun.
Striptease
Here is a "safe" striptease act. Cut out a cardboard silhouette
of a man and dress him in clothes. During the shower each guest
has to answer intimate questions about the bride and groom. Each
time an answer is correct, a piece of clothing is taken off the
"stripper." The funniest event is when the last piece
of clothing is removed, only to reveal a fig leaf. The temptation
will be too hard to resist for most people, so write something funny
under the fig leaf like, "Not on your life!"
