Nathan Klein, 10, describes how the invasive plant Japanese knotweed spreads, during a presentation to Douglas senior citizens during Thursday's Senior Lunch at the Douglas Community Methodist Church. Klein and the rest of the students in Paula Savikko's fourth-grade class at Gastineau Elementary School did a research project on how and when the plant was introduced to Douglas. The earliest confirmed date for the plant's introduction is 1939.
