Coast Guard plans annual seniors' dinner

JUNEAU - The Juneau Chapter of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer's Association is scheduled to hold the 35th annual Senior Citizen's Holiday Dinner at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall on Dec. 14 at 3:30 p.m.

The Juneau Senior Citizen's Holiday Dinner began 34 years ago when the late Senior Chief Petty Officer C.T. Barger, who along with other chiefs, wanted to do something positive for Juneau's senior citizen community. The holiday dinner began modestly as the chiefs hosted about 40 senior citizens in 1974. More than 64 local business and organizations now contribute to the event.

Entertainment will be provided by the Juneau-Douglas High School Jazz Band, the Juneau String Ensembles, the Highland Dancers, the Juneau-Douglas High School Chamber Choir and the Children of all Nations Dance Group.
