A thank you to: Douglas Fourth of July Committee members, the Douglas United Methodist Church, Treadwell Arena staff, Parks and Recreation and friends who worked to create a great community event.
The evening began with the United Methodist Men of Douglas serving cider, cocoa, coffee and cookies to the gathering. This year was a special treat of Tuba Christmas' concert in the church. A first for many to hear eight decorated tubas of different sizes play great Christmas carols.
More than 100 people gatherer around the tree on the Douglas Community Methodist Church lawn. Stroller White Pipe and Drum Band cheered the crowd with music. Anna Marg Rear was master of ceremonies. Reverend Imelda Ramos gave the invocation. Fourth of July Committee President, Pat Peterson welcomed everyone and remembered former Douglas City Clerk Virginia Post. Assemblyman, Merrill Sanford turned on the tree lights. Girl Scout Brownie Troops 40 and 43 sang Laughing, Laughing, Deck the Halls and Jingle Bells. Tuba Christmas played Joy to the World. Perseverance Theatre youth players performed a scene from their upcoming play Dracula. Pack 10 and 15 Cub Scouts wore Santa hats and sang Scout Vespers and Oh Christmas Tree.
Stroller White Pipe and Drum Band played a medley of Christmas music. The program ended with group merry Christmas cheer.
Greg Smith and Treadwell Arena staff hosted a large crowd of children and families at the Skate with Santa. There were nice decorations, happy music, Santa and his Merry Elves to skate with.
