Power outage occurs in Mendenhall Valley

JUNEAU - Some residents of the Mendenhall Valley went without power Tuesday morning.

Fifty to 70 customers were affected in the areas of Engineer's Cutoff Road, Mendenhall Peninsula and the end of Crazy Horse Drive, according to Alaska Electric Light and Power Co. spokeswoman Gayle Wood.

A conductor fell on a trailer after a large tree came down, Wood said. Crews had to splice in a new piece of conductor to fix the problem.

Power was rerouted to some customers by 5:30 a.m., but a few went without electricity until the repairs were complete at about 8:30 a.m.

The electric company discovered the power outage at about 3 a.m., but Wood estimated the outage happened about an hour and a half earlier.
