JUNEAU - The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Liberty will collect blankets, coats and new toys through Dec. 7 in an effort to donate needed items to villages throughout Southeast Alaska.
The Coast Guard started the annual drive in 1997.
Bins donated by Taku Fisheries were placed at Safeway, Super Bear Supermarket, Fred Meyer, Costco, Wal-Mart, Alaska & Proud and the Juneau Federal Building to collect donations.
The items are dry-cleaned and stored in plastic bags, then delivered to the communities of Hoonah, Angoon, Kake, Pelican and Elfin Cove Dec. 13-18.
