Juneau man gets 18 years for coffee shop robbery

JUNEAU, Alaska - A man dubbed the "coffee shop bandit" is headed to jail — for a long time.

Duwaine Price received an 18-year sentence in connection with a robbery and related assault at Capital Brew in the Capital Service station downtown last year.

Assistant District Attorney Jack Schmidt says 39-year-old Price had four years suspended. Schmidt says Price could have received a jail term of up to 20 years, but the judge in the case considered factors such as not using a gun during the crime.

Price must also attend an 18-month residential substance abuse treatment program in Palmer.

Following that program, Price will be jailed at the state contract prison in Arizona or at the Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward.
