SEWARD - Three environmental groups say they plan to sue over coal dust pollution in Seward.
The Sierra Club, Alaska Center for the Environment and Alaska Community Action on Toxics have informed the Alaska Railroad Corp. and Aurora Energy Service they need to control pollution at Seward's coal loading dock. The Sierra Club says debris and blowing coal dust is damaging water quality in Resurrection Bay and threatening the tourism industry.
The Anchorage Daily News reported the public-interest law firm representing the environmental groups, Trustees for Alaska, issued a 60-day notice of intent to sue over the coal discharges.
