Thanks for contributing to our annual meeting

Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council held its annual meeting, board meeting and training Oct. 18-20 in Sitka, while celebrating the 95th anniversary of Girl Scouts. The theme, "Girl Scouts make the world a better place," provided a platform for Girl Scouts to introduce the Girl Scout girls' leadership model, provide training in leading a Girl Scout troop, retaining Girl Scouts, council realignment, using community resources and working collaboratively, self-defense, boating safety and the upcoming cookie sale - "Make It a Hit."

Also held in Sitka was this year's auction and raffle at the Westmark Hotel. It raised more than $18,000 to support Girl Scouts in Southeast - thanks to the work of many hundreds of hours of work by Sitka volunteers and donations from businesses and supporters throughout Southeast.

In recognition of these donations and work, Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council proudly announced the following business awards and volunteer recognitions as part of its annual meeting and training in Sitka on Oct. 20: Sitka CHARR, Outstanding Donor; Alaska Airlines, Outstanding Supporter; and Allen Marine Tours, Outstanding Business.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this weekend a success. A special thanks to volunteers in girl scouting: Girl Scout's highest volunteer recognition, the "Thanks" badge was given to Mary Ann Kondro, of Kake. Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council's highest honor award, the Anita VanDyck Award, was given to Susan Cox, of Juneau.

Also recognized with appreciation pins were: April Jensen, of Sitka, Nancy Loiselle, of Sitka, Rose MacIntyre, of Sitka, Kay McCarty, of Sitka, and Lori Moore, of Kake.

Thank you, DIPAC, for donating jack salmon

The Juneau Raptor Center would like to thank DIPAC for this year's donation of jack salmon. This donation enables our eagles, both nonreleasable and rehabilitating, to receive the food nature intended they need to be healthy.

Special thanks go to DIPAC's Michael Wunderlich for all his assistance and also to Juneau Raptor Center members Ron and Kathy Maas for again collecting, bagging and storing these fish for the coming year.

Thanks so much.

Thank you from the Cooperative Extension Service

The Juneau District Extension office would like to thank the community for their support during the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service external review.

During the week of Oct. 22-26, the five-member review team conducted interviews that primarily focused on recommendations regarding the university's land-grant mission, resources necessary for the extension service to meet that mission and the organizational relationship that would enhance those capabilities.

The faculty and staff appreciate the individuals, volunteers, community members and interested parties who took time from their busy schedules to lend support.

A special thank you to those who were able to participate in the audio conference and to have their voices heard: Ken Coate, Odin Brudie, David Bruce, Judy Klein, Gerald Fiscus, Suzanne Forsling, Chris Miller, Debbie White, Colleen Lawyer (Sitka), and Karen Petersen (Thorne Bay). The report generated from the information collected across the state will be presented to the UA Board of Regents for consideration of recommendations during its December meeting.

Thanks for contributing to Auke Bay School's Halloween carnival

The Auke Bay Parent Teacher Association would like to express its most sincere gratitude to the many local businesses that made our annual Halloween Carnival such a great success.

The following local businesses helped make it all happen: Alaska Commercial Contractors, Breeze-In, Bullwinkle's Pizza Parlors, Carr's Safeway, Claire's, Costco, DeHarts, DNK Mining Company, Domino's Pizza, Floors Galore, Imagination Station, JRC The Alaska Club, Nugget Alaskan Outfitters, Our Back Yard, Southeast Waffle Company, Superbear, 20th Century and Gross Alaska theaters, and the Wee Fishie Shoppe.

Through the generosity of these Juneau businesses, approximately 400 little ghosts and goblins who attended the Carnival left with lots of great food and prizes. Our annual Halloween Carnival could not happen without such wonderful community support. Thank you.
