Chamber installs new president

JUNEAU - The Juneau Chamber of Commerce ratified Bob Martin as its new president at an annual meeting Thursday.

Martin is Goldbelt, Inc.'s vice president of operations and was also the chamber's 2008 Citizen of the Year.

As vice president, Martin oversees the Mount Roberts Tramway, the Goldbelt Hotel, Goldbelt Security Services and development of lands in west Douglas, Hobart Bay and Cascade Point.

He has been a strong supporter of building the road out of Juneau.

In other chamber business, Alaska Electric Light & Power Co. President and General Manager Tim McLeod was ratified as the incoming president-elect, and president Chuck Collins moved to the position of past president. The chamber also has some new incoming board members.

The president, president-elect, past president and treasurer make up the chamber's executive committee.

Collins said he expects the chamber will continue supporting the business personal property abatement tax, Juneau Access Project and other infrastructure and business matters.

Martin did not immediately return a call for comment Friday.
