SITKA - Sitka officials visited the Midwest last week to continue talks about a partnership between Sheldon Jackson College and Dubuque University, an Iowa-based Presbyterian university.
Sheldon Jackson College, the oldest college in the state, suspended academic operations in 2007 because of financial problems.
President David Dobler has been trying to sell off land holdings in an attempt to get the college out of debt while leaving the main campus intact. Dobler says a potential agreement with Dubuque would require Sheldon Jackson to convey its main campus to the Iowa school debt-free.
Dobler was joined on the three-day trip to Iowa by Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams and other city officials.
