BETHEL - Gov. Sean Parnell is calling for a greater law enforcement presence in rural Alaska.
Parnell spoke Tuesday in Bethel to the Association of Village Council Presidents.
He said he wants a greater and more meaningful law enforcement presence in the villages, where only 52 of the 71 funded Village Police Safety Officer positions are currently filled.
Parnell called for greater cooperation between the state and communities to increase funding, recruiting and retention efforts.
