Juneau needs green schools

The Gastineau Elementary School remodel should include a ground-source heat pump, which would eliminate the need for burning CO2-emitting heating oil. This carbon-free heating technology is being installed at the airport and the new pool.

The school's parking lot and playground are good locations for ground coils or wells. With clean hydro power, going carbon-free for the school is an important step in making Juneau more healthy and sustainable in light of global warming.

Don't burn dirty heating oil for 50 years until the next remodel - urge the city and the Juneau School District to start transforming school buildings away from fossil fuels now.
