Seattle-area CPA accused of cheating Native corporation

SEATTLE - A Seattle-area accountant has been accused of cheating an Alaska Native corporate subsidiary out of $188,000.

Clyde Thomas Beard of Federal Way was charged Friday with mail fraud.

According to an information filed in U.S. District Court, Beard was chief financial officer of NANA Services LLC, a subsidiary of NANA Development Corp., which in turn is part of NANA Regional Corp. of Kotzebue.

Beard is accused of submitting phony expense reimbursement requests for items that were never purchased between April 2005 and February 2008. He's also accused of charging personal items, including a diamond ring, 42-inch high-definition television and cable TV service, on a corporate credit card.

No lawyer for Beard is listed in the court record, nor is there a listed telephone for him to be reached for comment.
