Crossfire killed girl at Anchorage party

ANCHORAGE - A prosecutor says a 17-year-old girl fatally shot at a party in Anchorage last weekend got caught in the crossfire after two groups started fighting.

An affidavit obtained by the Anchorage Daily News says 20 or 30 people were at the gathering when a fight started between a street gang and another group of men.

Assistant District Attorney Paul Miovas says in the affidavit that gunfire erupted in the front yard shortly after the fight ended and Desirae Douglas got caught in the crossfire.

Police have yet to make an arrest in the shooting.

Douglas graduated from the Military Youth Academy earlier this year. The newspaper says she was working at McDonald's, but planned to apply for the nursing program at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
