Cops find wanted criminal

Police said they found a wanted high-risk sex offender hiding in a boat in a downtown harbor.

Juneau police said they got a tip at about 1 a.m. Thursday about the whereabouts of Alexey Stepetin, 28. Police said they found Stepetin hiding in the boat's cabin and arrested him. He was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

Earlier this week, authorities asked the public to be on the lookout for Stepetin after he failed to keep in contact with his parole officer. Police said he was a "danger to juveniles." Stepetin was convicted of sexually abusing a minor in 2001.

Police are still searching for John Chester "JC" White, 35. White, who was convicted twice of attempted sexual abuse, also has failed to meet with his parole officer and is believed to be in the Juneau area.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call the Alaska State Troopers at 465-4000 or the Juneau Police Department at 586-0600.
