ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers were at a rest stop on the Seward Highway, but they were not handing out speeding tickets.
Off-duty troopers and department staff planned to hand out free coffee and hot chocolate to motorists.
The goal was safety. They wanted to encourage drivers to take breaks on long trips.
The officers were set up at the Turnagain Pass Recreation Area east parking lot.
They parking lot is a popular midway stop for boaters and anglers returning to Anchorage from the Kenai Peninsula.
