Weather hampers search for two men
JUNEAU - An ongoing search for two Juneau men whose floatplane did not return from a flight to Young Lake on Saturday did not yield new information Wednesday.
Weather that hampered search efforts for four days worsened Wednesday, grounding a Coast Guard helicopter for most of the day, Petty Officer Wes Shinn said.
Brian Andrews, 56, and his son, Brandon Andrews, 24, did not return from an estimated 40-minute flight Saturday to pick up camping gear from a cabin on Admiralty Island.
Juneau Mountain Rescue is assisting in the search, with teams hiking on Douglas Island both Tuesday and Wednesday.
The state Department of Fish and Game is expected to bring in a research vessel today that uses sonar to search underwater, Alaska State Troopers Megan Peters said. The vessel will cruise the shoreline to see if the Cessna-182 floatplane might have landed in the water.
