Capital City Fire and Rescue and emergency crews from the Holland America cruise ship Veendam conducted a simulated emergency exercise Wednesday in Marine Park.

From 9:30 a.m. to about 1 p.m., fire and ship personnel simulated a response to a fire aboard the ship. The training exercise allowed the department and ship's crew to test communications, equipment and joint response capabilities in the event of a real fire aboard a ship in port. For more information, contact Fire Chief Eric Mohrmann at 586-0261.
