Joe Slagle, Collin Sielbach, Nathan Teal, Ben Weyhrauch, Kevin Craig and Tyler Emerson rotated on defense for the Reign during the game.
In Wednesday's other Juneau games at the tournament, the JSC JD United U13 boys lost to Phoenix '92 6-1; the JSC Capitol Cleats U13 girls fell to the Cook Inlet Soccer Club Sparta 2-1; the JSC Crimson Tide U14 girls lost to the Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club Conquest 4-1; the Juneau Riptide U15 boys beat the Alaska Goldstrikers '90 5-1; the Juneau Xtratuffs U15 girls beat the North Pole Cyclones 4-0; and the JSC Orcas U17 boys tied the Alaska Goldstrikers '87 2-2 in an exhibition match.
No score was available from the Juneau Jaguars U16 boys' evening game against Blue Impact.
The tournament, which includes nearly 70 youth soccer teams from Alaska, continues through this weekend. The winners of the various age divisions will earn berths at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional tourney next June in Aurora, Colo.
CISC Sparta 2,
JSC Capitol Cleats 1
Mahlet Tingley scored on a nice pass from Christa Perkins in the second half, but its was too little, too late for the Juneau girls, who trailed 2-0 at the time.
"It was a tough loss," Cleats coach Noel Shima said. "They were in the game all the way. In the last 15 minutes, they probably had 15 scoring opportunities."
Emily Johnson, Emily Waste, Ashley Soto, Rachel Donohoe and Karen Hinckle played tough defense for Juneau and kept the Cleats in the game, Shima said.
Juneau Riptide 5,
Alaska Goldstrikers '90 1
Sam Greely scored two goals and had an assist as the Riptide remained undefeated.
Dominic Smith, Colin Flynn and Bryce Saviers also found the net as Juneau went up 2-0 at halftime, coach Rod Flynn reported. The Riptide controlled the ball most of the game.
The Riptide's first goal of the game was scored by Greely on a header of a 35-yard throw-in by Zach Farrington.
Juneau Riptide goalie Sam Post had five saves.
Juneau Orcas 2,
Alaska Goldstrikers '87 2, tie
Dylan Ashe headed in a perfect crossing pass from Connor Pihl, and the Orcas benefited from an own-goal by their opponent to post a draw in an exhibition game.
The Goldstrikers team is a U18 squad that had no competition in its age division at the tournament, so it is playing exhibition matches against U17 teams.
No details were available from the other Juneau games. For more on the tournament, look on the Web at www.socceralaska.org.
