Juneau Jambaars win in Under-13 division, topping Full Force 6-2

The Juneau Riptide Under-16 boys soccer team opened play in the Alaska State Cup Tuesday in Fairbanks with a win.

The Riptide defeated the Anchorage Full Force 6-0.

Dominic Smith opened the scoring by curling in a corner kick in the 24th minute.

Sam Greely followed 10 minutes later when he deposited a goal off an assist from Smith, giving the Riptide a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Smith netted his second goal of the match in the 62nd minute as he converted an assist from Curtis Perkins.

Greely scored his second goal off a Perkins assist and Smith completed his hat-trick off Perkins' third assist of the game.

Isaac Stark also found the net for the Riptide.

Juneau outshot Full Force 17-8 as Sam Post and Derick Stewart combined to make seven saves to preserve the shutout. Tuavao Maake also added solid defense in the middle for Juneau.

Juneau plays its second game today at 8 a.m.

The Under-13 Juneau Jambaars also opened Alaska State Cup play Tuesday with a win over the U13 Full Force 6-2.

Rhett Bennett and Andy Lawson scored two goals each while Riley Paul and Colin Gozelski each found the net for the Jambaars.

Taylor Lehnhart made five saves in goal while fullbacks Devin Bertholl, Nathan Foskett and Sage Thibodeau helped limit the Full Force to two goals in the game.

The Jambaars face the Cook Inlet Soccer Club Timberwolves Elite today in Fairbanks.
