Though the crew were mum about the yacht's origins and ownership, the online publication Power and Motoryacht listed the vessel as owned until recently by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. Online Radio Free Europe cited the Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda as stating the ship was bought in July by billionaire Roman Abramovich, one of post-Cold-War Russia's wealthiest and most powerful oligarchs.
