Partnership formed to save Tongass cabins

KETCHIKAN - A partnership has been formalized between the Tongass National Forest and Friends of the Tongass Cabins to maintain 150 public-use cabins.

Joe Parrish, with the group that sponsors Friends of the Tongass Cabins, said the group wants to assist the U.S. Forest Service to maintain the cabins, and help save some that might be torn down.

Parrish said some of the cabins need just regular maintenance, while others need major repairs. He said the organization works with Alaska Youth Corps to help maintain the cabins.

The group is looking for volunteers. For more, visit www.servealaska.org.
